Logan's Run feels so much older than 1976. The story feels like they had Point A and then just started shooting. The entire time I was questioning why they are doing this or what happened to make that happen. The main plot has Logan infiltrating a group that gets people out of their bubble town. They never say he can't share his mission with other Sandman (who's entire job is to kill those that try to leave), but Logan doesn't tell his BFF, Francis, who chases after Logan, assuming that he is trying to escape. Most of the movie Francis is the only one chasing Logan and instead of just telling him, "Hey bro, I'm undercover, don't shoot me. Let me explain", Logan runs from Francis and tries to shoot him. The film is filled with stuff like this. After he starts his journey, it's almost as if they dropped the double agent thing and now Logan really wants to escape. But whatever, just Logan trying to escape is a fun story, but another issue is that Logan (and everyone else) has no personality so I don't give half a fuck whether or not he survives. There are no compelling characters to begin with, but the terrible acting doesn't help. The entire cast is awful. So, we have a poorly written story, with poorly written characters that are poorly acted, and then we count in the special effects that were bad, even for 1976. Star Wars came out in '77 and the effects are so much better. All of the CGI is so obvious and lazy. The only thing I actually liked was that they used models for a lot of the shots. Anytime we get an aerial view or see the city from afar, they use a model of the city and it's kind of cute. The only people put any effort into this movie was in the creation of these models. Of course they are clearly models and no on is going to buy that they are real sets, but watching this little plastic tram drive through a plastic tube between 2 model sci-fi homes is so ridiculous that it's endearing. I know the remake culture we have today sucks, but Logan's Run with a new cast that can actually act, effects that look half decent, a director with a real vision, and a writer that knows how to form a story, Logan's Run could be fantastic. As it is, Logan's Run feel so old and half-baked, but the general story is cool and the shitty effects and models kind of give it a unique charm. it's not a good movie, but it's a good idea.
