Friend Request is essentially Jump Scares: The Movie, as that seems to be the only thing they put any effort into. The movie starts out at 120 MPH with zero set up. None of the characters are anything other than cardboard cut outs the director moves around; no one has a personality or motives. The acting is terrible and all the actors are too old for their roles. I never cared about any of the characters, because I have no reason to; we don't meet them, we are just expected to care. No one has any backstory. The plot is razor thin and what we do get makes no sense. They clearly don't give a shit, so why should we? The entire movie is just a series of set ups for jump scares. Characters just do things for no reason. The plot is pure nonsense. The only reason this movie exists is for "Not America Ferrera" to look in a mirror and see a spooky face or computer man's laptop to glitch out and the lights go out. Similarly named Unfriended (which would have been a better name for this film) was terrible too, but Friend Request manages to find a new bottom. Not only is Unfriended a better movie on all fronts, it's at least a good bad movie. Friend Request is just boring, poorly written (story and dialog), and terribly acted. It's bad; don't watch it. It's barely even a movie. If, for some reason, you just LOVE cheap jump scares, I promise just searching "jump scares" on YouTube would yield better material than Friend Request.
