Bandersnatch is certainly a fun and novel experience (at least for Netflix) but it isn't nearly as clever as it thinks it is. All the technical aspects are fine and the acting is okay, the issue is with how they tell their story. In order to avoid spoiling any plot details I won't say too much on this, but with the story they establish, all of the endings are unsatisfying. My biggest issue is that they give you opportunities to "retry" situations, but it is never clear when it's canonical or it's just a rewind of the actual movie. Are we re-picking paths within the movie, or are these outside the film? There are times where we awaken from a dream sequence and are presented with the same choices and other times where I wasn't entirely sure if I had reached and "ending" was was offered an opportunity to pick a different path. They are nice enough to restart you with a very condensed version of the events up until your choice, so you aren't locked in to replaying those 20 to 30 minutes over and over. As an experience, Bandersnatch was a cool change of pace, but as a movie, it's a disappointing story that tries way too hard to be meta.
