Overview: Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends—Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo—have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape—with the help of some prodigious penguins—to explore the world.

Madagascar is super lazy and it looks like shit. The character modles and animation remind me of the flash videos mom's sent to each other back when we had America Online. Everything is so blocky and their movements are jumpy and stilted. The story is uneventful and everything about this film feels rushed and thrown together. I guess the voice acting is fine, but all of the characters are unlikable. Madagascar doesn't even manage to pull out any laughs. I can see the attempts at humor, but none of it lands. Toy Story came out a decade before this, so there is no excuse for the crappy animation and Shrek came out four years before and proved that you can make a "family" film that has comedy that can appeal to adults as well as kids.
