Review:

The subtitles don't even care enough about this movie to pay attention. The main character is named Brooks Rattigan. A couple of times, the subtitles day "Brooks riding" as in he's riding somewhere? Let's put the obvious facts out there: you already know every thing that is going to happen in this movie, it's so incredibly saccharine that you will probably get diabetes from this film, it seems to be written by a computer that exclusively watches the other shitty Netflix original teen girl chick flick movies and Buzzfeed. Credit to all the actors for doing an acceptable job considering what they were given to work with. No one actually does a great job and no one feel like a real person, but this script absolutely sucks and these guys did they best they could do. The Perfect Date is bland and generic. You have already seen this movie. It's every made for TV movie you've seen on Disney Channel with an Instagram/Tik Tiok/etc model who's sole purpose is to fulfill the romantic fantasies of every little 13 year old girl. Netflix lets them say "shit" a few times to make it fell more "grown-up", but it's really not. All the characters are constantly flip-flopping emotions. She's so pissed at him, but don't worry, she likes him again after two or three minutes. Those two characters seem to really be a good pair. Oops, I guess she hate him now? Not entirely sure why any of these things happen. Things that should be taking fifteen or twenty minutes of real, hard drama are just instantly popped and deflated. They don't give two shits about the plot, so why should the viewers? What they do care about is shoe-horning in dumb shit from Vice articles like "the patriarchy", casting Veronica from Riverdale (because teenage girls like that show, right???) and throwing her away, and making sure there are just enough top 40 songs to sell a soundtrack later. I just want to stress again, that I think the cast is acceptable and even though I don't think anyone here is a great actor, they were given dog shit to work with and at least they made a dog shit snowman. If you voluntarily watched The Kissing Booth, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, or Sierra Burgess because you thought they looked good, I think you already know The Perfect Date is tailor-made for you. If you are expecting High School Musical level cheese to make fun of, it's not really bad enough to enjoy in that way. The Perfect Date is just different people plugged into the same move we've all seen thirty times.
