Review:
For The Mask to be considered a comedy, I think it would needs jokes or at the very least set-ups with funny payoffs. The mask is really just a vehicle to let 1990's Jim Carrey to do weird characters alongside Looney Tunes cartoon effects. Imagine a sterilized Deadpool who instead of breaking the fourth wall, he makes a Tommy gun out of balloons and pulls a giant wooden mallet out of him pocket a la Bugs Bunny. There are very few jokes and they hope you can get along with Road Runner gags and cartoon eyes popping out of Jim Carrey's head. There is very little as far as plot and the acting is okay at best. Actually, the dog, Milo, is twice the actor that Cameron Diaz is here. Sure, there are a handful quotable lines, but "Smokin!" and "Somebody stop me!"
died in the 90's. Unless you have nostalgia shades for this movie, I can't imagine it being satisfying, especially if you weren't raised on the 90's "special brand" of comedy.
