Review:
Having read the book before watching the film, I don’t understand all the negative feedback this film is generating. It’s not War and Peace but it never pretended to be. It’s a romantic comedy with the usual ingredients only this time it’s an Asian family. Yes, it’s predictable and revisited many cliches but it doesn’t detract from the telling of the tale and I thought the ending was satisfying. It was portrayed true to the novel and the lead actors Constance Wu and Henry Golding were believable as a couple but Awkwafina, who played the best friend Peik Lin Goh stole the show. She was hilarious with the best one liners and she delivered! The movie gave us wonderful cinematography of Singapore and the food that they ate made me gain at least 10 lbs just by watching. The wedding ceremony at the end of the show was just magical. Thumbs up all around.
