Review:

I can only give them credit for having balls (metaphorical testicles, not basketballs). When it came out, I can only assume people saw it for either the basketball or the Loony Tunes and I really don't see how either could not be disappointed. If you were hoping for a Michael Jordan showcase filled with sick B-Ball stuff and a jump-start to a MJ acting career, full stop. I commend Jordan for acting almost entirely against green screens without actual co-stars. His acting is garbage, but he did do a good job of convincing me that he that he is talking to Bugs Bunny and not a tennis ball or whatever they used. Aside from a (way too long) highlight reel at the beginning, there is no real basketball here. The basketball game is just a slapstick cartoon sequence with MJ occasionally popping in for a slam dunk. This would be fine, if it was a Loony Tunes style sequence. Here comes the other issue. Beyond the appearance of Loony Tune standard characters, it doesn't have the charm I expected. It's incredibly watered down versions of tons of characters that never really get to be themselves. Everyone but Bugs gets what essentially amounts to a prolonged cameo. They also insert a brand new character in Lola Bunny, who really serves no purpose other than to tap that 90's Spice Girls "Girl Power" movement. She can't even be considered a love interest for Bugs because she's barely there and they barely interact. The plot is sloppy and and the 1990's CGI looks terrible now. The only way I can see anyone honestly enjoying this movie is through nostalgia goggles. Wayne Knight and Muggsy Bogues are the only people who did a good job in the entire film. Unless you are having 90's withdrawal and loved the film as a kid, stay away.
