Good start for Tom Holland's run. He is a very likeable Peter Parker.

Phenomenal acting by the entire cast but I would single out Charlize Theron who just can't seem to go wrong these days (actually, over the past decade or so). She is also one of the producers. I'm waiting for the day when Charlize Theron directs a film herself. Margot Robbie's star continues to rise. Nicole Kidman is her usual awesome self in a much smaller role than her co-stars. While watching, the camerawork felt voyeuristic at times which enhanced the tension for me. It turns out that the cinematographer, Barry Ackroyd, has done a good amout of documentary work. There is nothing preachy or maudlin in the script, and the conflict is never portrayed as purely good versus purely evil. It's a human drama with a measure of wit; it's also messy and thus rings true. The breezy script moves the audience along quickly, and if I were to quibble, I would not have minded another scene or two with all three leads together (in agreement with Nicole Kidman's statement in one of the featurettes available on the Blu-Ray release).

This is a gorgeous film, meditative and spiritual. It is breath-taking. There are many quiet moments to savor. Allow yourself to be lost in the images and in the complex characters living simple lives.

Renee Zellweger is unrecognizable as herself for she completely embodies Judy Garland. Her work is nothing short of a tour de force. Her performance earned her the Academy Award, as well as the BAFTA, the Critics' Choice, the Golden Globes, and the SAG awards. And she performed her own vocals, with a 2021 Grammy nomination to show for it. Time will tell if she wins that too.

This was the most complete of the three Thor films for me. Looking back at the previous two films, it was the most enjoyable to watch from start to finish. The chemistry between Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) was evident, elevating the humorous and the dramatic scenes equally. Anthony Hopkins as Odin was most convincing in the quieter scenes. Cate Blanchett's Hela was deliciously, unapologetically evil. I almost wanted her to defeat her little brothers.

It is definitely darker than the first film. This darker direction that the Thor series had taken with this second installment was a bit unexpected but Tom Hiddleston's Loki kept it together for me.

Great cast, very solid acting (Tom Hiddleston ends up being a bigger revelation than even Chris Hemsworth), and a promising start to the series.
